What we do
Six divisions, sixteen fields, one standard
Scapex is a multi-sector organisation: we work across education, skilling, women's enterprise, health, water, environment, rural development, elderly care, disability, disaster relief and animal welfare. Breadth is only defensible if each field is held to the same standard, so every division below carries a defined cohort, a unit cost, and an indicator we are willing to be judged on.
Foundational learning
After-school learning centres for Classes 3 to 8, run on a teaching-at-the-right-level model: children are grouped by assessed reading and arithmetic level rather than by the class they are enrolled in, and regrouped as they move.
Indicator: share of Class 5 children who can read a Class 2 level text, measured at baseline, midline and endline.
Skills & livelihoods
Six-to-twelve week tracks for 18–29 year olds in digital work, retail operations and repair trades, mapped to NSQF levels. Employers are brought in at course design, not at the placement drive, and we follow each graduate for six months.
Indicator: share of graduates in paid work at 90 and 180 days, with median monthly earning reported alongside.
Women & child welfare
Self-help groups with bookkeeping training, a revolving fund and introductions to actual buyers. The link to education is direct: household income is the single strongest predictor of whether a girl stays enrolled past Class 8.
Indicator: monthly household income change over 12 months, against a matched comparison group.
Health, nutrition & sanitation
School screening camps for vision, anaemia and growth faltering. A camp that screens a thousand children and refers two hundred has achieved nothing until those referrals close, so we track to treatment rather than to attendance.
Indicator: referral closure rate — children screened, referred, and confirmed treated.
Environment, water & rural development
Village recharge structures and school WASH blocks, paired with a green-jobs track training young people in rooftop-solar maintenance and waste-segregation enterprise. Gujarat's groundwater and its solar build-out are both facts on the ground; this pillar works with them.
Indicator: functional-at-12-months rate for every structure built, not the count built.
Community, inclusion & relief
The fields that rarely get an organisation of their own: elderly day care and pension facilitation, assistive devices and job placement for people with disabilities, disaster preparedness and rebuild support, street-animal sterilisation and vaccination, and folk-art livelihoods.
These are grouped deliberately. Each is too small to justify a standalone vertical, and each serves people the other five divisions would otherwise miss entirely.
Indicator: reported separately per field — no blended figure, because averaging across unrelated fields hides the one that is failing.
