Scapex Foundation was incorporated in 2025 under Section 8 of the Companies Act, 2013 — the not-for-profit company form, which carries the strictest reporting obligations available to an Indian civil-society organisation. That was a deliberate choice.
Why we exist
A child who cannot read at grade level is rarely just a schooling problem. The same household is often short of water, short of income, and one illness away from pulling that child out entirely. Single-cause organisations do excellent work and then hand the family back to every other problem it had.
Scapex is built the other way round — multi-sector by design, across sixteen fields from education and health to disability, elderly care, disaster relief and animal welfare. The risk of breadth is doing many things shallowly, so we manage it with one rule applied everywhere: no field enters the portfolio without a defined cohort, a unit cost and a published indicator.
How we work
Every block starts with a household listing and a learning assessment. If the baseline says the problem is something other than what we assumed, the programme changes, not the baseline.
Facilitators are recruited from the village they teach in, trained to a fixed curriculum, and paid properly. Panchayat and school leadership sign off on every site.
Midline and endline go on this site whether they flatter us or not, alongside audited accounts and the FCRA/CSR utilisation statement.

Leadership
Scapex Foundation is governed by its board of directors. Under Section 8 of the Companies Act, directors carry personal statutory responsibility for the company’s conduct — which is the point of naming them here rather than leaving a page of anonymous job titles.

Common questions
Yes — Scapex Foundation is registered under Sections 12A and 80G of the Income Tax Act. Every contribution receives a stamped receipt carrying our PAN and 80G registration number, and we file the annual donation statement so that your certificate reaches you.
But the honest answer is longer than "yes". Since FY 2023-24 the new tax regime is the default, and it allows no 80G deduction at all for an individual or HUF. You get the deduction only if you file under the old regime. If you are on the new regime, your donation still does everything it does — it simply will not reduce your tax. We would rather you knew that before giving. The full position is here.
A company can route CSR spend to a Section 8 company registered under Form CSR-1 with the MCA. With 12A and 80G now in place, our CSR-1 registration is the remaining step; we will publish the CSR registration number here the day it is issued.
Our programmes are designed against Schedule VII heads (ii) education and employment-enhancing vocational skills, (i) health and sanitation, (iii) gender equality, and (iv) environmental sustainability. Partners receive quarterly utilisation certificates and an annual impact statement.
Not yet. FCRA registration requires an organisation to have existed for three years and to have spent a minimum amount on its objects, so the earliest we can apply is 2028. Prior-permission route applications for a specific project are possible before that and we will announce any such approval here. Until then we do not solicit or accept contributions from foreign sources.
The board has set a floor of 85% of expenditure on direct programme delivery, with administration and fundraising together capped at 15%. That ratio is reported in the audited accounts each year, and if we miss it we will say why rather than reclassify costs to make the number work.
